Maybe the relationship wouldn't start off with religion mattering, but if you want a serious relationship in the long run, and you know that person X is not compatible with you religiously, then why waste time getting to the point where it will be a problem?
Because relationships shouldn't be viewed in a utilitarian way? Why is a relationship a waste of time if it never gets serious?
