Where in Alaska do you live? I was considering moving there at some point. It really depends on what kind of work I can find up there.
I live in Anchorage, which is the major population center of the state. Our economy is doing better than the lower 48's by a good deal, and I often see a lot of people hiring. State hires a lot, the oil companies pay well for working up on the north slope, plenty of normal stuff like retail/restaraunts/whatever in the more populated areas. The pay is generally good compared to the lower 48 but the cost of living is more also, so that probably balances out. A one bedroom apartment costs like $1000 and I think most places hire at $10/hour for non-skilled labor and it goes up from there.
