I think it's funny that global warming hits the deep south the hardest considering that's where most of the ultra conservative people who deny its existence live. How many people in Texas right now are saying that the drought is punishment from God because we started letting gays marry? L O L

Where in Alaska do you live? I was considering moving there at some point. It really depends on what kind of work I can find up there.

I live in Anchorage, which is the major population center of the state. Our economy is doing better than the lower 48's by a good deal, and I often see a lot of people hiring. State hires a lot, the oil companies pay well for working up on the north slope, plenty of normal stuff like retail/restaraunts/whatever in the more populated areas. The pay is generally good compared to the lower 48 but the cost of living is more also, so that probably balances out. A one bedroom apartment costs like $1000 and I think most places hire at $10/hour for non-skilled labor and it goes up from there.

It is odd.

No, only stupid statements are made by people in Texans.

Also, all Texans believe the same thing.

It's extremely rare that you see that kind of culture in the north or on the west coast, it's mostly in the south.

what statistical evidence do you have that only people in the south (texas is west, no where close to deep south) make illogical statements? you have made a blanket generalization (extremely illogical and unfounded) that has no merit. board 8 shouldnt change to conform to your ignorance and bigotry.

I never said all Texans, are you capable of debating without misrepresenting your opponents words? It's too common these days, everyone would rather dodge the issue than risk losing face...on the internet no less, sad.

Aside from the mountain of anecdotal evidence that you'd no doubt deny, there are obvious documentations of regional opinion in voting patterns. Who voted against gay marriage? Who voted for Bush? Who most strongly supported the war? Who has been most anti immigration? Who thinks creationism should be taught in schools? Who is most pro life? It goes on and on, you go across the board and that region of the country is regressive in almost every category.

texas is not a singular entity. you basically have the cities and the rural areas. the rural areas are indeed fairly backwards and uneducated, but the cities are generally as progressive if not moreso than any other educated area of the country...

well your basis for 'not putting anything past' texans is the alleged testimony of a person in an isolated incident. I would say that qualifies as a blanket generalization and use of an unsubstantiated claim...and your 'evidence' is based on media talking points and rhetoric. you have no basis for your claims, unless voting for bush counts as evidence a person blames war casualties for gay marriage...if you want to act indignant about being called out on your ignorant, misinformed rhetoric you should at least make a half cocked effort in research to back up your baseless claim.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the general population of Texas and the metropolitan areas do have a very strong counter culture to the politics of the overall state. That said you're acting completely oblivious the reverse and I always play devil's advocate when someone is arguing on either extreme. Yes there are bigots everywhere, yes there are some very progressive places in Texas, but to act like the overarching politics of the state as a whole do not have conservative undertones is quite naive, blind sided, and very silly.

That.

And I still never said that everyone from Texas is ignorant or that all people from Texas were predisposed as such, keep attacking the strawman :)

the state may be slightly more conservative than otherwise, but the general populous is not accurately represented with an image of a bible thumping, gay hating bigot. the 'republican' v. 'democrat' argument is silly anyway as both parties are practically the same.
