WCW Nitro
Airdate:
June 30th, 1997
Arena/Location: MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Nevada
Hour One Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko

Apparently (and this wasn't on the version I watched) Flair started Nitro off by hyping up Flair/Piper at Bash at the Beach, and there were two women involved. Also, Flair is supposed to be the heel there.

Match One: Chris Jericho(c) vs. Juventud Guerrera for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship

We are told that Chris Jericho is the new WCW Cruiserweight Champion. This happened at the Saturday Nitro that they had been hyping up for nearly a month now.

Decent seven minute match here with a couple of blown spots that they covered pretty well. Chris Jericho wins it with a super frankensteiner off the top rope, then applies the Lion Tamer for the win.

Winner, and STILL WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Chris Jericho

Alright match with a nice finish, but a few blown spots hurts it (along with the shortish amount of time given to it.) *1/4

In the ring, Mean Gene interviews Jericho. Before anything happens, Syxx is out. Jericho and Syxx banter back and forth before it devolves into a fight. After a break, and they're still fighting, but security pulls them apart. Alex Wright pops up and is now being interviewed by Mean Gene. Wright (Wearing Charlie Brown's shirt and looking like he's been hitting the juice) says he's being held down cause he's German. Right..

Match Two: Dean Malenko vs. Eddie Guerrero

Before Dean can get very far to the ring, Eddie comes out of nowhere to blindside Malenko.

Five minute match that looks like Dean is coming back from the intial sneak attack, but Chavo comes out, and Dean seems to be distracted by him. Eddie takes advantage and gets the win after a frogsplash.

Winner by pinfall: Eddie Guerrero

*1/4

Rey Mysterio Jr. is out, and cuts a promo on the Wolfpack. He talks about how he's tired with things between him and them. Mysterio challenges Nash tonight for Nitro. Nash comes out, and says that he can do it tonight. Mysterio and Nash

Bischoff is out on a bike. Hogan comes out, and they're using Voodoo Child. In the ring, Hogan talks up the match later tonight between Luger/Giant/DDP vs. Hall/Hogan/Savage.

Match Three: Hector Garza vs. Steven Regal(c) for the WCW World Television Championship

Regal is wearing a singlet now.

Short match that sees Regal win it with a Regal Stretch.

Winner and STILL WCW World Television Champion: Steven Regal

3/4*

The Steiner Brothers are out. Scott (who seems to have stolen Nick Patrick's goatee) cuts a promo on the Wolfpack. The nWo B-Team (then regular) music starts up bringing out most of the entire group. Hall has a contract. He says they sign it, and they'll have them in a match. The Steiners sign it (without reading it.) Hall says the 'Einsteiners' haven't been the same since the traffic accident. The contract says that before they take on the Wolfpack, the Steiners must defeat Masahiro Chono and Great Muta. THAT should be good.

Match Four: Super Calo vs. Psicosis w/Sonny Onoo

Apparently Calo had a minor injury a few weeks back when he was hit with that plastic chair by La Parka.

Psicosis gets the win here because Sonny Onoo tripped up Calo.

Winner by pinfall: Psicosis

Super Calo attacks Psicosis a La Parka runs out with a chair, and uses it on Calo. Juvi comes out and helps out Super Calo. Juvi and Super Calo stand tall as Nitro goes to break.
