All PS3s can play PS1 games
The super early BC PS3s has hardware PS2 emulation while the later ones have software... basically it means that the later ones don't play 100% of games, only like 90%, so it's possible some obscure game might not play.

the same problem happens when you use the component cable for PS2... you can't play certain PS1 games like Mega Man Collection !!
