Personally, the moment I was out of high school, it was like this huge barrier was erected against dating people from there. I just don't think I could stomach it myself, and had no interest anyway. If it works for you it's probably fine. People will talk because of the high school thing though... but there's really no reason you need feel bothered by this.

Most of our parents have higher differences between their ages than this

Average age differential between heterosexual married couples in the US is somewhere between +2 and +3 for the male, so not really. Granted some could be greater than +5 in either direction (my own mother is +5 on my father), but I still find it highly unlikely it's anywhere near "most". That said, minority or not, there's nothing necessarily wrong with it.

I'm dating a 31-year-old at 19 and when I went to a party with his coworkers no one gave him s*** for it. 23 and 18 is fine.

They are behind his back. I guarantee it.

This. So very this. If you're over that far over the "magic line" some use involving proximity to age 14, people will talk. Again, this doesn't necessarily mean you need to be bothered by this.

Personally I can't fathom wanting to date someone that far apart in age (on either end) but I'm not going to judge what works for other people.
