It's farfetched to me because it would mean essentially abandoning the current installed user base.
Adding a 2nd analog nub (which most games moving forward would be likely to utilize) completely locks out current 3DS owners from playing future games.
Not to mention re-naming the thing at this point would only create MORE confusion, not less. They need better marketing, not a complete re-branding.
