Quake Live, free sounds encouraging! I assume it's keyboard/mouse only? My friends aren't much into PC gaming but I might be able to sell that to them if it isn't going to cost them.
It looks like you can add a gamepad, but you probably don't want to. Quake is very fast and in order to do things like rocket jumping you need to be able to change where you're facing rather quickly. I didn't realize you were looking for console games.
