This should actually be joint with SMFFC, I have just realised >_>

RS did something that no other board 8 rpg had done at the time. It actually was completed and released. The usual cycle is

Initial topic full of excitement, hype and ideas. ---> A demo about a week later ---> Lose interest.

So to complete the 9 hour game and have it released 3 months after it was announced must have surprised a lot of people. The interest certainly surprise me, it was kind of strange in the months afterwards seeing people making fanart for it or getting IMs from people you'd never heard of interested in making a remake. =S

The concept of the game was a clash of worlds between board 8, the real world and video game land. It resulted in a pretty muddled storyline for a while that eventually settled on travelling board 8 city to city in a classic save the world sort of plot.
The game design was a real learning curve for me and I think it got a lot better as the game progressed.

The first stage was a jumbled mess hopping between storylines, it never really settled and some of the zones like the first forest was really bad. The initial ship design though was flawless. <__<
The second part of the game was LOST inspired and involved searching an island of mystery. This tended to be the glitchiest part with so many interconnected maps and phasings. I think it worked "ok" but there were too many random occurrences going on that were never explained here.
The last phase of the game when you got to board 8 I think was really well done, the plot settled down, the player had freedom to explore and it just flowed really well.

I started on Rising Valley after this but people weren't really digging the direction of it and I think I lot interest because of that. Technically it was so much better but probably messed around too much with large maps.
Rising Crescent was the 3rd attempt and the one with serious potential, I think I did a great job on the demo and feedback was really good for this. It was technically good, glitch free and the kind of plot more alike to RS than RV which people liked. The problem? Not enough time in RL, bleh
