What the game is: To make a long, long story short, DotA was a custom map for Warcraft 3 that eventually far surpassed WC3 itself in popularity. It developed a tournament scene and achieved wildfire popularity. League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth are DotA-esque games that were made recently.
What's going on: DotA2, made by Valve and the person who made DotA tourney viable, is being revealed to the public next week in a tournament that features the largest prize in esport history.
Why people care: DotA's reclaiming it's throne at the top of the DotA genre, and is probably going to end up being one of the most popular games of the present, not to mention it's probably going to be a major event in the development of esports.
