If the 3DS launched with better games I guarantee no one one give a damn about any of the current games. By better games I mean like, a big franchise.

is anybody claiming otherwise? Is anyone calling Shadow Wars a 10/10 game, everyone must buy?

This is launch period. big hitters take time to develop these days. launch period is the time where people settle for good-not-great stuff just to test out the new hardware. Early Wii launch everyone was hyped for Wii Sports, Excite Truck, and Red Steel. 360 launch, Perfect Dark Zero and Quake 4, terrible games, received an average of 8/10. PS3 launch, and for 2 whole years, Resistance was their shining star until 2008 finally brought them their MGS4. Hell, DS started much worse than 3DS, and didn't hit it big until MKDS came out in the next year's holiday season, and look how that system turned out.

If people are interested in buying something at launch, they just want something to play on their new machines. The big stuff comes later. Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Gears of War, Uncharted, Mario Kart DS those came a year after their console's release. 360's first huge system seller, Halo 3, was two years later. 3DS has Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and Kid Icarus coming this year, plus a fair bunch of B titles to keep us entertained too.
