I rarely consider "bogged down with story" a negativity, I mean hell, my favorite game is Xenogears. But if the story doesn't interest me as much obviously I'm going to care less and less.
FFIV's story and even FFVI's just don't move me too terribly much.
Sorry to quote this again, but I forgot to mention that Kefka is my favorite video game character of all time.
