Deadpool MAX #10: After an issue off, Kyle Baker is back helping David Lapham bring the monthly dose of cartoony insanity I've been craving. This book is just so wild, completely unpredictable in what it's about to do next; only fitting considering the title character. Bob's got a plan to get Deadpool back in his service and back on the goverment payroll, which maaaaaay or may not include being whipped to s*** by Lady Taskmaster in a wild sex scene, or creating a new Hydra organization consisting of a bunch of dumb rednecks. Meanwhile, Deadpool gets set up to assassinate an target who isn't really a good guy but an evil "supreme pedophile of children" but in fact isn't really that at all! That side of the story abuptly ends once Deadpool catches a glimpse of Hydra, but its entertaining to watch Wade Wilson drive his new handler up the wall and spray him in the eyes when he's slightly annoyed.

That's what this book is, through and through: entertaining. Wacky, insane, f***ed-up spectacle, where Hydra hostage takers respond by throwing feces at cop cars. GOOD

Detective Comics #880:I thought this was just a strangely OK issue of the book. Having two characters with the same name was actually kinda confusing, although the build-up and then reveal of Barbara Sr. condition was good. Synder continues to play up the ideas in his other book, about Gotham itself being evil, which makes me want to go pick that up and see what's going on with it. The Joker ended up being...kinda unimportant to the plot, didn't he? It's all some big goofy doomsday plan James Jr has come up with; The Joker is just there to seem creepy and required Batman-Joker fight scene we need once a year. The last page's reveal confrontation is kinda meh; I know that not only is Barbara gonna be alive and well by the end of the issue, but she's gonna be walking around fighting crime in about a month. There's no tension or "oh s*** son" feel to the last page, since we see him coming up the elevator already. Or...was that him coming up the elevator? The pacing is all over the place in this issue, a very jarring read.

So far, weakest of the three story arcs, but hopefully Snyder/Jock can provide a strong conclusion.
