Stargate The Movie (Director's Cut)

This has an overall cinematic feel to it, though there are plenty of things that feel out of place. Like the cast being different.

I can appreciate the trope of the guy with the crazy theory about something that is actually right because of the way the universe the story is set in works. Pyramids built by aliens? Outlandish! (they were actually built by mole people. True story)

Hello one L O'Neil...

Hello Chey...Creek Mountain Colorado Military Instillation.

I...don't think I am going to like Commander Guile there.

So they learn about the stargate and are awed by the spiffy wooshing (neat little swirly backlash woosh too). Brought a probe out and watched it get transported to another gala...the closest planet to earth with a stargate lol retcon.

I never was a fan of how they did the gate travel in this. The whole two sides are cloudy and the other two are spacy and the light stretching...just doesn't say 'wormhole' imo. I guess the light stretching technically should, but eh...

Saw that candy bar earlier. EVIL PRODUCT PLACEMENT o__________o

Also makes alien horse food apparently.

...my word they sure know how to make an alien beast's tongue look realistic.

And the product placement keeps happening. Wait a minute..5th avenue...five races...chocolate coating hiding the peanut buttery goa'uld inside...clearly the candy bar is a representation of all that is stargate.

Movie stuff happens and the spaceship lands. That thing makes me think of a megazord, fostered perhaps by there literally being a pyramid megazord thing at one time. I had the toy. You could fit another megazord in it too it was so big. Now I am wondering who took cues from whom >_>

Ah the lighter bit alluded in the series beginning. You just know they wouldn't be able to get away with a smoking scene like this these days. Or maybe they could, considering it is an established enough trope. Kids, drugs are bad. They turn you into army badasses >_>;;

More standard movie stuff...daniel saved by the sarcophagus and...KITTY <3

I do like how they don't translate the language for the audience. The character's emotions and actions carry the scenes.

More plot. Daniel having fun and finding a way home...

So...the good guys attack the peoples with the headgear with bullets and they fall. This is completely contradictory to what happened later! Stargate is a lie! The masks were up so they were clearly invincible!

Shame they don't have a rocket launcher to deal with the flying ships this time...or maybe it is because of this time that they did.

Also, as Daniel's love interest...I can never remember her name. Shalalala something...as she finished reviving I swear there was a ding sound as the thing opened.

Plot stuff, movie ends, and gosh that was really not that great a movie. The pacing sucked and the sfx were meh and I know the series turned out awesome, but this little adventure was dull overall. My impressions I had going by hazy recollection were that it was a pretty meh movie too, so huzzah for reinforcing that I guess.

I read that it was originally planned to be a trilogy of movies and that another mythological influence would have been introduced in the second, and then the two would be tied together in the third. There is a series of books based of one of the writer's notes. There were apparently talks some years back about making these movies a reality. I...think I will stick with the direction the tv series went.
