and before you ask DID YOU WATCH AT LEAST HALF A SEASON YOU HAVE TO WATCH HALF THE FIRST SEASON BEFORE YOU REALLY GET IT
This might be a decent rule of thumb for most shows, but for The Wire, I'd say you need to finish at least the entire first season.
But look, you can't expect everyone to love something; I'm sure there are people out there who believe Shakespeare is a hack playwright, for example. Just a shame you can't enjoy what's inarguably (Breaking Bad aside) the best TV show ever produced.
