And even with walkthroughs I don't use a walkthrough to beat the game, I'll use it to get all the random crap that I would have NO chance of knowing about otherwise.
I mean look at FFX. I'm generally the completionist sort and so when I learned you get items for dodging lightning bolts I figured "okay I'll see how many I can dodge". And I probably would have dodged quite a few and tried it a good many times. I may have even forced myself to hit 100 bolts.
It would not have even occurred to me to try for 200. Which essentially requires Encounter None gear which I didn't even have access to the first time I reached the thunder plains. And even if i happened to accidentally get to 200 I would have thought to myself "well what the hell, I dodged 200 lightning bolts and they give me the crappiest weapon I've ever seen".
Walkthroughs, imo, are there to help you get the most out of a game when you would otherwise not have.
