The X series from 1 to 5 is exceptional, though. X6 suffers a notable drop in quality, but Inafune pretty much left the series after X5 and started working on Zero, which ties into the timeline (yeah, I know, lol Mega Man story, but still) much, much more nicely anyway.
X8 is appreciable for its attempted return to form, and it's a gem to behold, but it's too broken-up by silly shooting 'puzzles' and the boss fights are kind of a trainwreck. It's a worthy try overall, but I'll just follow the X1-5 ---> Zero 1-4 gig in the future.
