oh. well good then!
i basically don't buy headphones more than $30-40, so to me this sort of rig is ridiculous. i mean i prefer ear clips but for some reason those are the hardest ones to find. everyone is either with full headphones or earbuds (terrible) so i get stuck with the former, but some high quality cliips are, alas, a mystery.

I agree earbuds are terrible. Earbuds are the things thing are really wide and sit outside of the ear canal. IEMs, however, with above-average tips (like foam) are extremely good.

That being said, some excellent clip-on headphones are the Audio Technica ATH-EM7 http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-EM7-GM-Adjustable-Headphones/dp/B0009GWXAK?tag=duckduckgo-d-20 and the Audio Technica ATH-EW9 - http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-EW9-Lightweight-Clip-Headphones/dp/B000CMTV3I/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_0

The biggest jump in headphone performance, in my mind, is the jump from $20ish headphones to $100-$250ish headphones.

As someone who doesn't mind spending a little bit more than average on headphones I'd say $1100 is a bit much. But that's only because my ears aren't all that great and I'm sure most of that equipment would be wasted on me.

I'm sure you're going to love the hell out of it though.

Well do keep in mind that more than half of the rig is amping and the like. And I don't have the obsession with amps - I don't want to buy multiple amps, test 'em out, etc like I do with headphones. So it's more of a one-time cost that will work with all of my present and future headphones, you know?
