I've been in 12 car accidents (I was only the driver for three of them, and the cops were able to see that none were my fault), no seat belt in a single one of them, and I've never even gotten a scratch. Seat belts are overrated and the government having the military do seat belt checks is martial law through and through.
That's fortunate for you, but it's a poor justification for not wearing seatbelts. Now I agree that it would be better if they wern't so strict when it comes to seatbelts, but it didn't come out of nowhere.
But yeah, how severe were these accidents? Because while seatbelts aren't strictly mandatory in all cases, they sure as heck reduce death rate in some cases.
