The way I always break it down is that whether or not ditching cable/satellite is something you should do comes down to sports.

If you're a big sports fan, keep them. Yes ESPN streams their stuff to ESPN3, but other networks don't without buying individual sports plans that are super expensive (and often have local blackouts to boot). It's still far more convenient to have cable if you are in any way a sports person.

If you're not, then forget it. Get an antenna for your TV to pick up ABC/CBS/NBC/Fox/CW/PBS for free, subscribe to Netflix and Hulu Plus, and have at it. Bonus points if your TV has internet apps or if you can connect your computer to your TV.
