Requiring people to patch their games to the latest version to play online would solve that. It's something they have to do anyways if balance patches of bug fixes come out.</p>
I don't think it works the same way when it comes to stages
If Player A has a DLC character that Player B doesn't, they can still play together with a patch, since only Player A is actually using the DLC. Player B still isn't using the character.
But if Player A has a DLC stage that Player B doesn't, they can't play together with a patch, because then Player B would actually be using the stage that Player B hasn't even purchased - and they can't allow that
