I've gone over this before. The Man Championship was first brought into place when Ric Flair, one of the most important wrestlers of his era, declared himself The Man. Years later, the title's lineage came to an end with Edge's retirement, bringing an end to that line of Man lineage and leaving us without a man. A few months later, CM Punk, one of the most important wrestlers of his era, declares John Cena, the most important wrestler of his era, is "The Man," right before their hugely important WWE Championship match. If that doesn't constitute starting a new lineage, then nothing short of Edge coming out of retirement long enough to lay in the ring while someone pins him will satisfy you.

I direct your attention to The Ring World Championship in boxing. It's a title awarded by a boxing publication. Not one of boxing's governing bodies, just a magazine. And yet it's the most prestigious title in the boxing world. The rules for it are pretty much exactly like the rules for The Man Championship, too. The only way to become The Ring Champion of your weight class is to beat The Ring Champion of your weight class. There's no title fee or anything like that, it's just any match between The Ring Champion and someone in his weight class. Further, there are only three ways for The Ring Champion to lose his title: lose a match, move into another weight class, or retire. The only two ways to win The Ring Championship are either to beat The Ring Champion, or in the case of a vacant Ring Championship, win a match between the Number One and Number Two ranked fighters in that weight class (or sometimes between Number One and Number Three).

So that's how I personally see The Man Championship, with the exception being that since the title was started by a declaration by Ric Flair, it can be awarded in a similar way in the case of a vacancy. And that is how the website is going to continue to handle the championship, dissenters be damned.

Heres a problem.

Sid Vicious for years has been asking WHOS DA MAN, with the obvious answer being himself. If he should return and declare himself DA MAN again, does that create a split in the title?
