I think The Avengers does plenty of good to the industry, as did films like The Black Knight. They are actually great superhero films that are also making lots of money. They are not cash-ins as they clearly take considerable work and effort, and they actually become successful. It gives the industry more incentives to work harder on better films instead of on crap that doesn't make half as much money. Basically it's sending a message that it is worth the extra effort.
