I actually don't recall the differences between the versions of FF2 changing the game significantly. There's general polish improvements that all the games got, but nothing drastic.
Although I guess FF2 getting general polish improvements without completely wrecking the game's challenge (FF1 Dawn of Souls) or slowing the game down and imposing a three-enemy cap (FF3 DS) could be considered a victory for FF2 remakes!
