Like this is something that isn't rare of anything. Attractive is good, picking something else is interesting but will usually serve some purpose. You want characters that stand out. Either you limit the characters or the setting needs to establish the character as he is. Anime loves to sexualize both, though obviously women more often because that's what the majority likes. Then you have yaoi to make it a completely opposite crowd.
