Not really. They get cold and freeze to death like everyone else.

The difference is in the aggressor nation not being prepared for it. In both Napoleon and Nazi Germanys case, the two prominent examples of this, they were fitted for summer combat. With the Germans specifically, their vehicles were not suited for the cold weather, and it meant tanks and trucks would break down. Couple this with the intense mud, and you have a logistical nightmare of people without good enough winter clothing and supply issues preventing food and stuff from getting to troops.

Its not that Russia is better at winter fighting, its more that the big invasions we point to are invasions that were not prepared for it.

Point in case, the Mongolians attacked in the winter, and with a mere scouting force, and absolutely wrecked havoc throughout Russia. Theyd even utilize the lakes being frozen to move even more effectively and stuff like that.

Similar thing happened in Finland just before the European theatre of WW2 blew up, where the Soviets were absolutely embarrassed after a brutal winter campaign.

Its not that the Russians are some god tier winter warriors, and more that French and German people wearing summer outfits and with tools not designed for cold weather didnt fare well when they unexpectedly were still deep in Russia when the winter hit. Thats a logistics and overall strategic failure by them, not an indication that General Winter is a major advantage to the Russians.
