People are just dumbfounded... It used to be the belief that if one side lies, you combat that with the truth, you fight ignorance with education, propaganda with evidence, and so on and truth will win in the end.
And then the era of Trump came along and anyone not in the cult was shocked at how indoctrinated much of America really is. You give them facts and evidence and they went "fake news!" and doubled down and ignored it.
What do you do with people like that?
The only thing people could come up with was deplatforming them and hope that stops the cancer from spreading.

This is why I am saying that the left is becoming more Trumpy.

Once one side engages in blatant bad faith and experiences a lot of success with it then it kind of forces the hand of the other side. Either engage in bad faith in return or just continually lose political power.

I have zero optimism about politics in the US moving forward and I just try to have simple positive interactions with people in public that have nothing to do with politics. It's the only way I'm gonna keep my sanity.

Oh and try to stay away from this and the politics board, because people have obviously had their brains melted at this point. I add people from these boards to my ignore list everyday and that helps at least.
