I uh, wrote a guide for the game. I played it twice, almost thrice. The first time I played the game I took its story and plot at face value, and had a somewhat good time with it. It relied a bit too heavily on tired old anime clichs and Jin is literally Shadow the Hedgehog, but otherwise not bad. It was the second playthrough that opened up a massive pit of plotholes: character motivations were revealed to be very inconsistent, Nia went through character assassination, and a lot of the worldbuilding doesn't add up to what the game says it does anymore. The second playthrough was jarring, and made me actively dislike the game's story.

Conversely XC1 actually gets better on a repeat viewing when you know everyone's motivations. There are also a lot of moments where characters or systems speak to the players and nobody knows what's being discussed (like the High Entian Tomb) that are crystal clear on a repeat viewing and add to the overall experience.
