I mean, the government is paying for the tests so there's plenty of profiteering happening. A lot of the companies providing COVID-related medical services are posting record profits

As much I hate to say it, governments should have been relying on wartime provisions to temporarily control the production of emergency medical supplies to actually get the supply out there. Then again, I suspect a lot of these activities are allowed both because of politicians' vested interests in those companies as well as in exchange for political favors (Pfizer did Democrats a HUGE solid by deliberately withholding vaccine news until after election to favor Biden; that's close to a kingmaker move)

Do you think people aren't also making money from high Covid rates? That many of the politicians actively opposing masks and vaccines under the pretense that they benefit corporations selling such products don't have stock in companies that service ventilators and sell oxygen so they can directly profit from increased hospitalizations?
