I have never been in any long-term relationship (friends, family, partners, whatever) where opening up emotionally didn't end up backfiring. Everyone is just looking to use somebody else for their own benefit, and deep down don't give a fuck about anyone else's problems.

It doesn't matter who it is, how much you care about each other, or how long you've been together. Absolutely nothing you confide to somebody else is off limits. Eventually, they will decide to hurt you, and they will do it in the most painful way they know how. They do not care about you.

Some people have the energy to constantly engage in that nonsense, to manage the spider-web of fuckery that social relationships sprawl into. I lost it a long time ago. Put on a happy mask and nobody asks any questions. Only get as close to people as is required to achieve some material goal. But at the end of the day, you go to sleep and dream as you lived, alone.
