In 1950, 72% of the world lived in extreme poverty. In 1981 44.3% of the world was in extreme poverty. In 2015 9.6% of the world lived in extreme poverty. That last one is particularly noteworthy since a huge portion of that was from China embracing some capitalism in its communistic system.

Communism is a failure and capitalism has been a run away success the last 100 years. Has there ever been a communist regime that didnt starve its people?

Capitalism does get inefficient when cronyism gets embedded into the system and artificial barriers of entry to gate keep get legislated. There needs to be significant efforts to keep the playing field fair, and right now its not, but still way better than any version of communism that has ever existed.
