Further explanations are coming, and you can deduce things aren't quite as they seem from this movie anyways. Grindelwald is manipulative and will tell Credence whatever he needs to hear. Grindy also doesn't know about the baby swap, so he really has no real reason to know Credence's true identity, further supporting the idea that he's just feeding Credence shit to get him on his side.
