Yes.

It's not one that I grew up with. I saw it for the first time six years ago and I've seen it three times since. I still like It's a Wonderful Life, Die Hard, and Miracle on 34th Street better. But I do appreciate A Christmas Story more and more each time I see it.

It just has a universal quality to it. It's hard not to be immediately taken in with the self-depreciating opening narration of, "There I am with my stupid glasses and dumb round face." We've all looked back at a photograph or video of our younger selves and had a similar response. It's impossible not to feel some overlap with what one or more of the characters have gone through.

Maybe you're the parent who worried about their child being bundled up. Maybe you were the kid who dealt with bullies or had that holy grail present you wished for. Maybe you had the dad who thought he knew everything about repair and got mad when it wasn't as easy as he thought it would be. Maybe you had the annoying sibling -- or were the annoying sibling. There's something in that film which anyone watching that movie will have had in his or her life at some point.

Above all else, I think that's why the film is so cherished. It's a baseline good movie, but it's the universal experience quality that makes it the classic it is.
