Board 8 Playthrough Topics

This Topic - Ace Attorney topics are just the best. I can talk about the series infinitely, and Board 8 has a great fan community for the series. There are lots of varied opinions and debates over characters and cases, and the discussions are usually good natured.

Psycho-Locks
Zero Escape

The Herlock Sholmes "Logic and Reasoning Spectacular"

Trucy Wright
Pearl Fey
Adrian Andrews
The Great Ace Attorney 2

Revival of the Prosecutor - It's not often I recommend not listening to a song if you haven't beaten the game yet because the song itself might be a spoiler, but this might be one of those times since it's a clear remix of Kazuma's original theme. Which is a shame because this song is great. It might be the best thing about Kazuma becoming a prosecutor!

Enoch Drebber
Twisted Karma and His Last Bow (G2-4)

Magnus McGilded - I don't think he's the best villain in Great Ace Attorney (that's Drebber), but he's pretty darn great. I really loved the slow realization as you're defending him that he's definitely guilty (re-examining the omnibus after the recess is such a great "whoa" moment if you notice what changed) and there's nothing you can do to stop him from getting away with it. It's a shame they kill him off right afterwards, but I guess they had to drive home the concept of the Reaper's Curse and that was a great way to do it.

Believe me, any comic relief I may provide is entirely unintentional.

Zacharias Barnham
Tobias Gregson

Damian Tenma - This is a guy I've come to appreciate more and more as time goes on. Him turning out to be the Amazing Nine-Tails was probably my favorite "minor" twist in Dual Destinies because I didn't see it coming at all, and Apollo figuring it out impressed me. In hindsight, perhaps it should've been easier to guess after seeing him ham it up as Tenma Taro! The dude clearly knows how to play a character, even if his real life personality is awkwardly stoic.

The Divination Seance - This is a really cool concept, but I think it's a bit flawed (which might be by design to prove a point). The "testimonies" are very memorable, too, and it shows the series has come a long way since Phoenix was throwing a phone at Edgeworth (see below). It does make me wonder if Khura'in only holds murder trials if they're completely dependent on the Divination Seance and have no need for defense attorneys.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Phoenix Wright
3-1 Phoenix's Shirt and What It Really Stands For
Yuri Cosmos
Quinby Altamont
THE MURDER WEAPON WAS UDON DOUGH

Phoenix Throwing Edgeworth a Phone - Is this the best use of TAKE THAT in the series? It might be! Would it have been better for them not to show Phoenix throwing anything than for them to show a cropped image of a phone that rotates and shrinks as he throws it to Edgeworth? Perhaps! It reminds me of the opening scene of the original Lord of the Flies movie, where they simulate a plane crash by spinning a picture of a plane around in front of the camera.

Hugh O'Conner - You're a goner! This dude is a classic example of the guy who thinks he's a genius and is clearly not. His smugness is super annoying on the first day, but I end up coming around on him by the end, especially after his Mood Matrix is so patently absurd that Blackquill just up and leaves the courtroom until it's over.

Espella Cantabella - I feel like Espella is difficult to rate because she's up and down as a character. Her constantly getting hypnotized and believing she started the Great Fire gets annoying after a while, but she's genuinely a sweet girl, so I can't bring myself to hate her. She's actually super great in L-3 and the aftermath because she takes Maya's place as the assistant and does a solid job at it. Her and Luke working together to turn the gold Layton statue so it points in tandem with Phoenix is a great moment.

Deid Mann
Apollo's Bracelet
Save Scumming
Manfred von Karma Emerging from a Candy Castle
Taka
Kristoph's Demon Hand
Benjamin Woodman
Courtney Sithe
Prosecutor Flynch

Lotta Hart - She's definitely been way overused at this point (Her role in AAI2 was dumb. I like Nicole Swift, but she could've existed without being Lotta's protege), but usually when she's around, it means something big is about to go down and she's about to produce some evidence that appears decisive against your client. She does occasionally produce some gags that make me laugh ("Reckgiven" will never not make me laugh because it's just that dumb), but as a southerner, it disturbs me that this is how other people see us...!
