He's fine for what he is. He brings some kind of levity and heart to the group as the 'normal guy along for the ride.' The nearest comparison I can think of for him is Winston from Ghostbusters, where everyone else has a clear role to play in the movie, but Winston is just there. Also, this man is an airship engineer, why does he know how to fight? Cid at least is like an astronaut, they're super fit physically. The only real thing I remember about Sazh is an old Deviantart comic strip where Barret and Cloud see Sazh and Lightning, and Barret asks why Cloud's counterpart is a girl, and Cloud tells him to shut up, but I was like, Barret's counterpart in that game is clearly Snow, right? Other than being black guys with children, he has nothing in common with Sazh.
