Plus pretty much any mechanic can work on a regular car so there's lots of competition.

Hardly. The insurance rates for EVs are higher too. Don't get me wrong i want to protect the environment, but this is not an individual health problem, a car is a life tool, i will almost always choose the lower cost over the higher cost unless the differences are negligible in which case i get the one i like more.
