businesses from participating in in-person Black Friday sales? Surely, nothing could exacerbate the current pandemic more than allowing mass-gatherings to take place nation-wide?

...because it's no different than any other day in retail? The crowding might be a little worse, but everything else is the same. And iirc last year a lot of states effectively banned in-person Black Fridays.

And in terms of impact, family gatherings are going to have a MUCH larger effect than Black Friday sales.

I'm not sure what the government is supposed to do, tell private businesses that they aren't allowed to have sales?

And even if they tried to shut down that day, it would just happen on another day. And trying for weird regulations like limiting the number of people inside during a major sale would likely increase the number of fatal stampedes.

literally what? If we did things on republican terms it would be illegal to be gay, everyone would be given an AR-15 on their 16th birthday, Sunday church service is mandated by law, and being caught with any drugs or pornography is an immediate lifetime enslavement or execution in the streets
