Even if you get into the miniatures, they are way less then Warhammer 40K (~$25 for a lance, less then $100 for a full company). Downside is it doesn't have the broad rule-set or customization of Warhammer 40K. Problem with Battle tech is they don't have all the mechs represented as a model. A good mini game to look into is one of the Star wars ones. Either Legion or X-Wing. I really like X-wing.
