The microtransactions are just cosmetics. It's a grind if you want to earn a bunch of currency naturally, but it's not like you feel you're missing out on someone when you play. The game has content, but I guess it depends if you like the content. I've always liked exploring AC maps and the small little side stories you discover are fun.
