idk sounds like something that would be

Kinda but not really. In rick and morty they all have different lives, the universes are different etc, though to some degree he has been able to go and get duplicate morty's so perhaps it is infinite universes he can choose from.

My idea is basically that your conciousness is the same in all of them where your actions/reality etc have been the same, up until they diverge. Since there are infinite universes though that means there will always be another you that is exactly the same, so if you die, that one continues and your conciousness (which is exactly the same across all of them) continues on.

Rick and morty, Sliders, Heinliens books (number of the beast etc) all touch on it, but don't include the conciousness part (where unlimited versions of anyone exits, therefore you don't cease to exist until there is no possible method/means for you to do so in the same universe you are in.

The real question becomes if it's ever possible for you to cease to exist once the possibility of immortality becomes real (Through cloning, becoming digital, regeneration of tissue etc).

In theory it's possible within the next 20 years easily for something to be developed that prolongs life or digitalizes conciousness/memories etc, if that is possible then it could happen and you would then not be able to die at all.

That is what I'm afraid of.
