The approach van Zieks takes to this case is really interesting. He's claiming his friend deliberately murdered Billy Gunn...but since he claims the experiment was a success in the process, it ensures his device will be protected under the new act and won't have to be divulged to the public or be torn apart by a police investigation.

Certainly an odd way to deal with your friend, but it's honestly probably in keeping with Harebrayne's wishes since all he really cares about is making sure his device is preserved. He's willing to be punished for Asman's death, even if he insists it wasn't intentional.

It took me awhile to get this since using the machine as a murder weapon would still have it get taken apart- which is why Albert asked for Ryunosuke's help in the first place. It took me until awhile after I beat the case before realizing that the reason Albert confesses is that if Albert had killed Asman with the screwdriver then the screwdriver is the murder weapon and the machine is uninvolved and can still be protected by the act.
