In that downtime, either maintain the appearance of being busy or just be completely out of sight. Sitting there reading just gives an impression you will get off task on company time. It is stupid and I dont agree with it but thats how jobs work. The bright side of that is youre getting paid to chill. Just enjoy it and dont do anything to bring attention. It could be worse. Last time I worked in an outbound calling role we had to spend at least 50% of our time on the phone. There was a significant amount of work besides calling too. I was making probably 100-200 calls a day. They tracked dial count, occupancy time, all that.
