You're telling somebody else, likely in a worse off situation than yourself that they do not require the ability to protect themselves with the same level of force that they would be exposed to if robbed/attacked. Which would be fine if either of us had faith in the police, but that's not the case. Telling somebody to abandon the means with which to defend themselves while knowing the alternative isn't actually viable just screams soapbox preaching to me.
