i don't know what to tell you, i mean... it's no different than fallout or skyrim or whatever other legit RPGs have lots of items. if you want something, keep it, if not, sell it. i don't know how that's "unnecessary" in a game where you need money and resources to buy and upgrade things
The difference between Fallout, Skyrim or any other RPG is that it is extremely obvious when an item will have some use or value to it and when an item is totally trash. In Odyssey, there is no visual distinction between loot items. You loot a body, you are likely to get either a weapon (requires an extra step to process) or a junk item (less hassle to sell). It was unnecessarily convoluted.

A game can also give you ways to generate money *without* requiring you to pick up endless amounts of items to sell or break down.

And even when they *do* rely on a system like what Odyssey used, there are some basic QOL methods they can include, such as a "mark as junk" option to allow you to sell or scrap in bulk. That is especially true of a game that already categorizes items by *type* - you could set it to automatically mark any Spears as junk if you're never going to use Spears, for instance.
