Not sure how since that was before I started reading comics.

Not that one.

He's talking about Secret Wars (2015), which is entirely different from and mostly unrelated to Secret Wars 1 (1984) and Secret Wars II (1985). Not the least of which by virtue of the fact that the first two were actually good, whereas Secret Wars (2015)... wasn't.

Basically, Marvel is pretty much creatively bankrupt and is recycling the names of old crossovers (hence why they did Civil War II as well), and generally just shitting out bad idea after bad idea in the comics, in the hopes of coming up with something they can eventually use in the movies someday. But it's not a coincidence that most of the stories the movies/tv shows are mining for ideas are comic stories from 20+ years ago. There really aren't all that many newer stories that are worthwhile. And almost none from the last 12 years or so.

Secret Wars (2015) screwed up the multiverse in the sense that the plot involved destroying every single universe in all of existence, and then recreating them afterward, so it could serve as a sort of soft-reset on continuity (sort of like what DC has been doing every 10 years since the 1980s). At the end of the day it doesn't really mean much, though, because writers are completely free to ignore whatever they want anyway.
