This rumor is older than dirt

This.

Also, there's the rumor going around that they're going to do the multiple protagonist thing again, but this time make one of them a woman. Which I still think sucks, because I'd much rather go the GTA:O or Saints Row route and make my own protagonist entirely.

It's not a bad choice, but I wish they'd make a new setting other than Liberty/Vice City and San Andreas.

Maybe go back to London.

Most people disliked GTA London. And the British developers in Rockstar can't make fun of Americans unless they set their parody game in American cities.

It also doesn't help that they want iconic locations, and that limits what cities they can use (NYC and LA are obvious, Chicago and San Francisco are potential secondary alternatives, Detroit might work for urban decay settings... but most other US cities really aren't "worthwhile" enough to parody).

Like it or not, we're probably doomed to rotate between Liberty City, San Andreas, and Vice City pretty much forever. Or like other rumors have suggested in the past, we might eventually get all three as separate but interrelated MMO settings (so, for instance, if you're playing a character in Los Santos, you could potentially go to the airport, get on a plane, and fly to either Liberty City or Vice City).

They made a billion in 2020 alone from GTA online, so odds are good.

Worse than that, something like 50% of the company's income at this point comes entirely from GTA micro(macro)transactions.

It's almost inconceivable that they're ever going to see the single-player as being more important than the multi-player ever again. From this point on, the more likely scenario is that they're just going to see the core game as a distribution platform to sell the new online presence.

And they're going to LOVE the idea of switching to an online setting in an entirely different city, because it will give them an excuse to reset everyone's progress back to zero and encourage an entirely new round of escalating spending and endless cash transactions.
