Other M's story is also truly bizarre because it's based so heavily off the Metroid manga that no one has read but then it retcons the thing where Adam super dies at the end of the manga. Just a bizarre relationship with Metroid's larger continuity on every level.

the weird part about Other M and the manga is it teases references without actually getting into it so you really don't know wth they actually "canonized" from it - and that's just if you even read the manga to begin with

if you didn't read the manga then you just don't even know what the references are trying to do

then again leaving things vague is also what Other M did with what seemed to be its main plot line
