If you don't feel that the character should resemble the depiction, you could literally go with anybody. The character should resemble the depiction, I just don't see why race is a meaningful part of your world. C-Raine posted... Black mermaids don't make sense, do they? White mermaids don't make much sense either (at least, not any more sense than any other skin colour). There's really no reason to expect mermaids to have human skin colours at all, given that camouflage and attracting mates are the two driving factors for aquatic animal coloration, and human-coloured skin doesn't really help much with either under the sea. --- This is my signature.
