Half way into the JBP one and it's pretty bad, I gotta say.

Starting from the premise that he's a facist is a pretty bold opening. They didn't even say that about Rush.

And so far they haven't said any specific bad thing he/did or said just a lot of statements like He likes the heroes journey and filters his understanding of the world through that lens, and that's kinda facist.

It's honestly not that far off from "he grew up and liked painting... and so did Hitler, pretty sus if you ask me..."

I'm going to keep listening, hopefully they get to the part where they can back up their argument that he's definitely a fascist.

I do admit that if this was my only knowledge of JP and I trusted these people as being fair, I think of JP as a bad person. But that's kinda the problem though, if you start with the premise "obviously this person is a fascist" and then you move forward from that assumption, you are liable to just go down a path of confirmation bias.

Maybe I'm wrong and they'll get to the meat of what's horrible about him. But so far all the specific criticisms they've made of him are things I feel he would say about himself.

The one thing that is a criticism of him that'd I'd cosign is that he has a manner of speaking that often comes off as certain even when he is talking somewhat speculatively, I think this is a choice on his part. Something in his mind about a hero needing to be bold likely motivates him to act this way, I like others can find it off putting at times. To give an example of this manner of speaking, he'd rather say "there's no question it's 90F out, or at least in so far as it's not 70 degrees out. I suppose one could make the argument it is closer to 85F out and I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that, but I think my larger point is that it's not 60F AT ALL" than he would say "I think it might be in the 80s or 90s temperature wise".

They also are disliking him associating "Chaos" with the feminine, but he will very often say men and women have so much more in common than different and Chaos is archetypically feminine. Not like "women are worse" in any way.

He is conservative so he favors Order a bit over Chaos but he is very open about the dangers of too much order.

He see them very much as both capable of good/bad, like Yin/Yang. I think people react poorly because they think of "Chaos" as more pejorative than "Order", but I think it's the same kind of mistake people made about the google memo and the use of "Neuroticism". They think of it as a pejorative attack rather that referring to a specific thing. In Peterson's case Chaos isn't a pejorative insult but rather the best name for this half of the archetypal universe.
