I grew up with a rottweiler while I was young and it was instead hyper protective of me around anyone other than my parents. I broke my foot when I was like 4 and she'd tow me around in a wagon outside so i could play with friends still.

It's entirely about how you raise the dog, or any animal really. A lot of people just take them in as toys and quit caring once they're not small lovable puppies/kittens any more.

Hell, my current dog is a rescued Akita that was abused to all hell and back, and she's the chillest dog ever now some years later.

That said you still have to watch your damn kids around animals, especially infants and the like. Kids like to grab and pull and gnaw on shit and that can cause trouble even with the nicest of animals. Friend of mines kid almost lost an eye when he was a little toddler because he squeezed a cats tail.

TLDR: Parent's an idiot, and just one of many parents who just want to not watch their kids nowadays. If you can make a conversation with a neighbor more important in your head than watching your kid, you got issues.
